Everything stays in your browser's localStorage on your device. Ambit™ Budget Pro never uploads your data anywhere — no servers, no cloud, no tracking. Your financial information is 100% private.

Each install holds its own data — by design. Because Ambit™ doesn't have user accounts or cloud sync, your laptop's data and your phone's data live separately. To copy data between devices, the easiest path is Send to Device in the sidebar — Ambit hands your data file to your OS's share sheet so you can pick AirDrop, Nearby Share, email, iMessage, or save-to-Drive. The other device opens the file and imports. (If your browser doesn't support the share sheet, use Export Backup → transfer the JSON manually → Import Backup on the other device.) Either way, it's a deliberate trade-off: a one-time manual step when you set up a second device, in exchange for never handing your financial data to someone else's server.

No. Ambit uses CSV/Excel import instead of bank connections. You download a transaction file from your bank's website and import it into the app. This is more private, more reliable, and doesn't require sharing your bank login.

Any bank that lets you export transactions as CSV or Excel — which is virtually all of them. Ambit auto-detects column formats from most major banks.

In the app, open Settings → License and tap ⬆ Upgrade Plan (you can also find it under "See what's available in other plans" on the dashboard). Pick your new tier and check out — you only pay the difference, because what you already paid is credited automatically at checkout. Since Ambit™ is a one-time purchase with no subscriptions, upgrading issues a brand-new license key. After checkout, check your email for that new key, come back to the app, and enter it. Your accounts, transactions, and settings stay exactly where they are.

Two things to check. (1) Did you enter your key in the app? Buying by itself doesn't unlock anything until you activate the key on your device — open Settings → License and enter the key from your receipt email. (2) Did you upgrade an existing plan? If an older key is still active, open Settings → License and tap ↻ Sync tier, or deactivate the old key and enter the new one from your most recent receipt. Your data is never touched by any of this. The Debt Planner (Pro) helps you pay off credit cards and loans faster. Choose snowball or avalanche strategy, set custom payment plans per debt, and track your actual payments against the plan each month. It simulates your payoff timeline and shows how much interest you'll save. The built-in Lump Sum Analyzer helps you figure out the best way to deploy a bonus, tax refund, or extra cash across your debts.

After purchase you receive a license key by email. Open Ambit™ — in your browser at the web app, or the Microsoft Store / Google Play version — and enter your key in Settings → License. Your plan activates instantly and the key is stored locally on your device. Activation does a quick online check the first time; after that the app works fully offline.

If you clear localStorage, your data will be lost. The best protection is Export Backup (sidebar) — keep a recent backup file and you can restore everything with Import Backup. You can also re-import your original CSV files to rebuild transactions. Your license key always still works — just re-enter it to reactivate your plan.

Yes. All plans include lifetime updates. The web app and the Microsoft Store / Google Play versions update themselves automatically — just reopen Ambit™ and you're on the latest version. Pro users get every new feature we build at no extra cost.
